JOB OPPORTUNITY: Development Manager

February 2018 – TAG is seeking to hire a Development Manager who will report to the Deputy Executive Director – Development and Operations (DED-DO) and work closely with TAG’s Executive Director, Board of Directors, the Development Committee, and program directors. The Development Manager will oversee and enhance a robust development program and will direct TAG’s annual fundraising campaign, major gifts, annual benefit, smaller events, and in-print and digital appeals.  Responsibilities will be both strategic and tactical, including the cultivation of new donors through development and execution of an overall development plan, donor strategies, managing prospective donor pipeline, foundation research, donor database management, grant applications and reports, grant and gift stewardship, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date information on donors, foundation funding opportunities, and prospects.

The Development Manager's role requires tact, diplomacy, and interaction with staff and the Board. Strong communications skills, written and verbal, are a must.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of three to five years’ experience with demonstrated success in identifying, securing funding from individual donors, corporations, foundations, or international organizations, as well as developing and executing appeals (in print, online, and via social media), and fundraising events.
  • Ability to think strategically to create and implement viable fundraising plans with ambitious but achievable goals.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to articulate compelling cases for support.
  • Experience with digital philanthropy and social media engagement.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate staff and board to produce and succeed.
  • A commitment to teamwork, yet ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing strong working relations with top executives, foundation officers, and board members.
  • Authentic interest in TAG’s mission and a genuine passion for philanthropy.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit sector and philanthropic circles that can be tapped into for cultivation of new donors.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

  • Help TAG's senior staff and Board build a strong, contemporary strategic case for investing in TAG, deepen relationships, expand the donor base, and increase year over year giving.
  • Develop fundraising plans and strategies to help ensure renewals of current funding and identify new opportunities and grow individual giving, leadership giving, foundation and corporate grants and sponsorships, planned giving, and events including TAG’s annual Research in Action Awards.
  • Connect with and utilize other not-for-profit organizations with similar support bases for potential joint efforts and to cross pollinate donor pools.
  • Solicit contributions and seek partnership opportunities for major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Monitor existing opportunities at grant-making foundations, corporations and federal and state grants; develop relationships to increase the percentage of grants awarded; and write grant proposals as needed.
  • Create and implement the annual development calendar delineating annual giving appeals, development publications, special events, social media promotions, marketing pieces, and stewardship.
  • Maintain strong relationships with board members and continue to involve them in identifying, establishing, and advancing relationships with ongoing and prospective donors.
  • Work with Communications Officer and Administrator to ensure acknowledgement of all gifts and that donor information is captured for future outreach and performance analysis.
  • Establish and monitor metrics to track the effectiveness of fundraising goals and engagement efforts.
  • Develop a mechanism to ensure monthly reporting for all received gifts.
  • Partner with Communications Officer to ensure that donors, grantors and email recipients receive integrated and appropriate messaging, including mail and online appeals and an annual report for donors.

Compensation
The salary range is $70,000 to $80,000 per year. TAG offers a generous benefits package including generous paid time off.
