TAGupdate 2012

TAG, with allies, pushes for a cure for AIDS, zero TB deaths, and global access to hepatitis C treatment at International AIDS Conference

At the 19th International Conference on AIDS in Washington, D.C., on July 22–27, 2012, TAG co-hosted a community education workshop on AIDS cure research, and helped the International AIDS Society (IAS) launch the Global Scientific Strategy: Towards an HIV Cure. TAG’s Richard Jefferys spoke at the workshop, and Mark Harrington spoke at the IAS press conference. TAG launched the campaign for Zero TB Deaths, Zero New TB Infections, and Zero TB Suffering and Stigma, a global effort created in alliance with Partners In Health and the Stop TB Partnership. In partnership with Doctors of the World/Médecins du Monde and the Public Health Programs of the Open Society Foundations, TAG worked with a global coalition to launch the Washington Call for Access to HCV Diagnostics, Treatment and Care for All! Finally, on July 24, the Atlantic online published Mark Harrington’s “Only Stronger U.S. Leadership Can End the AIDS Epidemic”; later the same day, Mark was arrested along with 12 other activists participating in a global march on the White House.
