About the position
Treatment Action Group (TAG) is seeking a bright, highly motivated, and organized grant officer. The grant officer will be responsible for managing TAG’s existing grant portfolio and reporting, and will prospect and apply for new opportunities. This position will report to the Deputy Executive Director, and be based in New York City. No travel outside New York City is anticipated with this position.

The grant officer role requires strong work ethic, good judgment, and both self-direction and the ability to work collaboratively. Excellent project management, organization, and communications skills (written and verbal), are a must.

Treatment Action Group (TAG) is an independent, activist and community-based research and policy think tank fighting for better treatment, prevention, a vaccine, and a cure for HIV, tuberculosis, and hepatitis C virus.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage TAG’s existing grant portfolio (majority foundation/corporate grants), including:
    • tracking reporting deadlines and payment timelines,
    • drafting narrative reports including soliciting information from project staff,
    • compiling deliverables,
    • liaising with TAG’s finance team for financial information, and
    • submitting reports through requisite channels including formal portals;
  • Prospect new grant opportunities, including:
    • researching foundations/institutions, including history, giving levels, and possible connections to TAG,
    • working with program staff to identify potential collaborations with partners and allies for joint applications,
    • identifying relevant opportunities to pursue,
    • developing pitches for internal discussion and external use;
  • Apply for renewals and new grant opportunities;
  • Maintain and align TAG’s internal systems for grant record keeping, tracking grant status, and communicating information to TAG staff and Board;
  • Collaborate closely on all of the above with TAG’s program staff, senior leadership, finance manager, administrator to solicit and communicate relevant information.


Background, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Three to five years of professional experience in an office setting, with two years in grant writing and/or institutional donor prospecting;
  • Superb organization skills, attention to detail, and follow-through;
  • Robust project management skills and ability to balance competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-moving, dynamic work environment;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Sharp research skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills; friendly rapport with the ability to communicate effectively in a collegial manner and maintain relationships;
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving capacity;
  • Self-starter who can work independently and proactively in periods of limited supervision;
  • Willingness to learn about new, technical subject matters without getting intimidated;
  • Demonstrated experience or commitment to working in a multicultural environment where commitment to diversity based on race, ethnic and national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, and physical ability is an important institutional value;
  • Basic Microsoft Office and Google suite skills are a must; familiarity with Guidestar, Foundation Center Directory Online, Fluxx, Dropbox/Dropbox Paper, is a plus;
  • Enthusiasm for TAG’s mission is a must; familiarity with advocacy, international health, policy making, or the conditions on which TAG works, is a plus.


Salary & Benefits
The salary will be $50,000 – $56,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and skills. TAG offers a competitive benefits package that includes fully-employer paid health insurance and generous paid vacation (starting at four weeks, plus additional paid sick leave and holidays).
