The World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for diagnosing TB have evolved along with available technologies and tools that are increasingly accurate, simple, and efficient at detecting TB and resistance to a wider range of TB drugs. Despite this progress, 2.7 million individuals with TB still remain undiagnosed and undetected.

On July 17th, 2025, TAG hosted a community webinar on tests for TB and drug resistance. The webinar breaks down the latest WHO guidelines and explores the most effective tools for diagnosing TB and drug resistance.

The webinar also launched TAG’s updated resource,  An Activist’s Guide to Diagnostic Tools for Tuberculosis, and provides a deep dive into two sections of the Guide: (1) the array of WHO-recommended diagnostic tools and how they should be optimally used in country programs; and (2) key access considerations and actions activists can take to ensure that all people at risk of TB receive quality TB diagnostic testing.
