March 20, 2026 – NEW YORK, NY – Treatment Action Group (TAG), a nonprofit think tank dedicated to advancing research, policy, and community-led advocacy for people living with and affected by HIV, hepatitis C (HCV), and tuberculosis (TB), announced today the appointment of Adam Ortega as Communications Director. Adam brings experience in nonprofit marketing and public health and will lead TAG’s communications strategy to expand its reach and impact,  and will deepen TAG as a leading voice in treatment advocacy, research, and community engagement on our work to end HIV, TB, and HCV as epidemics.

After an extensive competitive search, TAG selected Adam Ortega to lead communications at this critical time for public health advocacy. As the current administration intensifies threats to evidence-based policy and domestic and global health programs, TAG is determined to strengthen our communications capacity to help defend science, counter misinformation, and expand the reach of our work.

Prior to joining TAG, Adam served as Director of Communications at the Institute for Community Living (ICL) in New York City. He has held roles at Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) and Alaska Community Action on Toxics (ACAT), where his work has spanned workforce development, public health, and environmental advocacy.

“Adam has a strong ability to translate complex science and policy into clear, compelling communication,” said Jason Kirk, Chief Operating Officer at Treatment Action Group. “At a time when evidence-based public health is under attack and misinformation is spreading, strong communications are essential. Adam will help expand TAG’s audiences and take our communications to the next level so the power and urgency of our staff’s work are fully understood and lifesaving HIV, TB, and HCV science reaches the people who need it most.”

Adam will work closely with TAG’s leadership, program directors, and partner organizations to ensure effective dissemination of accessible research to affected communities and marginalized populations disproportionately affected by HIV, TB, and HCV.
